A thangka is a complicated,
composite three-dimensional
object. Most of the thangkas
are painted on a canvas.
Some are painted on paper or
leather. Other are
embroidered, appliquéd,
woven and patchwork
thangkas. Generally people
use a thangka as a reference
for the details of posture,
attitude, colour, and clothing
etc. of a figure located in a
field, or in a palace, possibly
surrounded by many other
figures of meditation
teachers, your family,
etc.
Keeping the thangka’s in your
home or office will bring lots
of blessings, peace, happiness
and good wishes.
Technically making a painted
thangka occurs in four stages
1. Preparing the
foundation
2. Sketching
3. Painting
4. Framing
